 Little Island Park

Here are photos from Little Island Park  - a 133 acre city owned beach park located next to the Atlantic ocean - at the very southern end of Sandbridge - just before the Back Bay Wildlife Refuge begins.

General Park Information

• Open Daily from 5:30 am until sundown

• Located:  3750 South Sandpiper Road in Sandbridge

• $3 per vehicle fee Monday-Friday and $4 Sat, Sun & Holidays (Memorial Day thru Labor Day)

• 757-426-7200 (Park office) To reserve shelters and large weddings call Parks Leisure Events 757-473-5251 (Mon-Fri 10-3pm)

• Lifeguards on duty 9:30 am to 6:00 pm Memorial thru Labor Day weekends

• Open fires are prohibited - but you can use the grills provided by the Parks and Rec Department

• What's Prohibited:  No powered model rockets or airplanes, no alcohol, no camping, no washing cars, no golf, no hard balls (life baseball or softball)

• Pets OKAY if on a short leash and under control

• WEDDINGS: $100 for the Permit - if you are bringing a wedding arch, large props and/or chairs - if you are want a party tent - the permit fee is then $500 - contact Parks Leisure Events 757-473-5251 - this must be arranged well in advance as they only allow a small number of weddings

• SMALL INTIMATE WEDDINGS WITH NO ARCH OR ACCESSORIES:  There is no permit required if you are having a small ceremony with just the bride and groom, marriage commissioner and guests - meaning:  as long as you are not setting up any props on the beach - you can come any time and tie the knot - no worries!

775 foot beach north of the fishing pier for surfing and a 2,000 foot beach for swimming and fishing south of the pier. There are well lit basketball and tennis courts, restrooms, picnic shelters, a huge parking lot and vending concession area

Picnic shelters are available by reservation (Call Parks Leisure Events 757-473-5251 M-F 10am-3pm)

You can easily get to the fishing pier by taking the North End walk way over the dunes - open 7 days a week (April thru October) $2.00 fee age 10 and older (under 9 accompanied by adult are FREE!)

North End Bath House (near pier)

South end bath house near the Sport Fishing area (look for the sign) it's on the far right walk way over the dune (least crowded area)

It's a bit of a long walk from the parking lot - bath house to the left - shelters to the right - but it's so worth it! This is why we charge more to deliver and set up chairs for beach weddings - it's a haul!
